Short Bio

Fabio Pianesi received his degree in Psychology from the University of Rome (magna cum laude), in 1980, and the specialisation degree in Computer Science from the same university in 1986. After working as a clinical neuropsychologist, in 1988 he joined FBK-irst (at that time, ITC-irst), where he has served as head of the TCC (Cognitive and Communication Technologies) division from 2003 till 2008. He served as chairman of the Board of Directors of CELCT, a spin-off company devoted to the evaluation of language and communication technology (stakeholders: FBK and DFKI). Fabio Pianesi is currently the head of joint FBK-UniTn Computational Cognition Laboratory, manager of the Ambient Assisted Living activities of FBK,.

Fabio Pianesi has taught Computational Linguistics (University of Bergamo) and Formal Linguistics (University of Venice). Currently, he teaches Cognitive Ergonomics at the University of Trento. He is the chair of the “ACM-ICMI (International Conference on Multimodal Interfaces) Advisory Board” and member of the Steering Board of “AItAAL – the Italian Association for Ambient Assisted Living”. Fabio Pianesi is member of the editorial board of the Springer Series on Human Computer Interaction, has served as guest editor of special issues of The Journal of Language Resources and Evaluation, the Journal of Personal and Ubiquitous Computing, Computer and Cybernetics. He was general co-chair of ACM-ICMI 2005 and UMAP 2009. Fabio Pianesi has participated in many international projects funded by the European Community (CHIL-FP6, Netcarity-FP6, Nespole-FP6, Cospatial-FP7, PF-STAR-FP5, ...).

Over the last two years Fabio Pianesi has been part of the Trento RISE team, involved in the participation of this organization in the EIT ICT Labs.

Fabio Pianesi has extensively published on topics relating to Computational Linguistics and Language Technologies, Formal Linguistics, Human Computer Interaction, Multimodal Analysis and Interaction, Intelligent User Interfaces.
